Blog 4: Filter Bubble

Below are screenshots of 5 different people searching the same key words into google. For this experiment I had my friends type in “The Bachelor” in the search bar to see the results that came up and to see the filter bubble in action.

This was taken by my sister Erin in Atlanta, Georgia on her own wifi!

This was taken by my friend Megan in the Pittsburgh area!

This was taken by my friend Dani in Gettysburg, PA at an off campus house with its own wifi!

This was taken by my friend Seanna in the Philadelphia area!

This was taken by my friend Molly in Gettysburg, PA on campus wifi!

There is a slight difference in some of them with different articles coming second. But all of them except one had the same first article show up. The one that didn’t have the same first article was the one taken by my sister in Atlanta. I think that one was so different because it is a lot farther from all the other photos taken. Even though they were on different wifi and in different locations the rest were all taken in Gettysburg. I also think that the fact that we are all girls around similar ages could impact the results being so similar as well. We all watch the bachelor and could be reading articles about this season often as they come out. Even though I didn’t get drastic results I thought the activity was very interesting and proved to me that there really is a filter bubble and it does effect was is coming up when we search something.
