For my netnography project I am looking at the LaBrant family and their followers. The LaBrant family includes Savannah LaBrant, Cole LaBrant, Everleigh and Posie LaBrant and a baby boy on the way. Savannah and Cole are the parents of their two little girls and are very religious people. A lot of their tweets and videos consists of preaching religion and highlighting their kind and influencing life. After visiting their YouTube page I noticed that they removed comments from their videos. They used to allow people to comment and recently they removed that option. The only way I can see reactions to their views is now through Twitter and Instagram. I focused a lot on Twitter this week and found mixed results. While some of their follows encourage their views and appreciate their reminders and tips, others are insulted by them and fight against their beliefs.
This video above is one of their reaction videos to tweets and comments made towards them. The title of this video is “We Can’t Believe You Guys Said This About Our Daughters… (Reading Mean Hate Comments)” so it draws views in immediately. This video was posted on May 22 in 2019. They acknowledged that they removed comments off their videos immediately because they don’t want to encourage mean comments and “haters”. Not only do they receive comments about their religion, but their race: being too “white bread”, blogging lifestyle and personalities. They however did a great job at staying positive throughout reading these and realized that not everybody is going to like them and having their lives be public they will of course receive criticism. They emphasized that they would never comment such cruel comments on anybody’s posts.
Below is Savannah’s Twitter profile. As you can see in her bio she is a believer and follower of Jesus and a proud wife and mom. You can also see her the amount of followers she has even if not all follow her because they believe and enjoy the content that she posts.
Below is a tweet the Savannah posted on her Twitter which included a video of her and Cole going around their town and giving strangers money to pay their rent. In this video you see how they are so giving and kind. The people they give the money too are extremely grateful and thankful that they would perform and unbelievable act of kindness. I will attach the link for this video below the screenshot.
Below are screenshots of responses to the video that Savannah posted. The screenshots I decided to share are more negative ones. The first one acknowledges that they can help people but that they believe they are doing it for show and praise by their followers. The next screenshot is from someone who doesn’t believe it should have been filmed at all. The last screenshot is a positive one and reflects on what they are preaching to others. They are inspiring others and shaping others to behave in a magnificent manner that goes above and beyond and won’t let others tell them that posting this content is planned and focused on getting attention.
Below is Cole LaBrant’s Twitter profile and you can also see he is a believer and follower of Jesus too. You also see how proud he is to be a dad. His cover photo is of a cross which reinforces how powerful and important religion is to him.
Below is a screenshot of a tweet that Cole posted sharing his beliefs of Jesus and religion to social media and his followers. Since he has the freedom of speech and is building his profile to show who he is as a person it makes sense that he would tweet this content. However I also attached responses to this tweet. Most tweets had great and thankful comments, but there were also a lot of negative comments as well. The first comment is from a woman who is thankful to Cole for reminding her that Jesus is always with her and that everything will be okay. The next comment shows that not all people agree with him and others and believes that he is forcing Jesus and religion on others.
They preach throughout their videos that they love vlogging because their kids and them will get to look back at such great moments in their lives and watch them. In this new age technology gives people that option to capture moments that will last forever and thats why they love what they do. They want to show their daughters and followers that rude comments are never okay, but that shouldn’t effect how you live your life and what you believe in. They will preach kindness and love over everything and want others to acknowledge that being kind doesn’t cost anything and results in powerful action and feelings. Negative comments will never win and take them down.
