The situation of politics and persuasion in 2020 through social media is complicated. Nowadays everything is heavily influenced, especially online when you see very biased news profiles and when you have others people who are sharing their opinions. While I think it is great that people feel comfortable sharing their political opinions online in a respectful way, it can start to make people believe that everything said on Twitter for example is more than a opinion – it is the truth – but it really isn’t. I can definitely see myself at times being persuaded by social media marketing, but I know to check my sources and then read other ones on top of it now that I am older. However, a lot of people don’t know that so it is easier for those people to be persuaded. I believe my friends and family also aren’t heavily influenced by social media marketing because we talk about biased profiles online. For what we value, culturally, as Americans, it is growth. We have valued different things over time that lead us to more growth, but now we are at this point where social media has taken over and we are lacking real communication in person with others. All of this confusion leads back to the lack of real communication.
